About the art

"Canned Sunshine" was inspired by the idea of preserving childhood joy and memories. Those simple summers where the only things that seemed to matter were having fun with neighborhood friends and creating imaginary worlds in the backyard.

Half of my childhood was spent growing up in south Georgia, famously known as the “Peach State”. Peaches are something that remind me of joyful childhood summers spent playing outside, shelling pecans on the back porch, and making homemade peach ice cream. Marigolds, with their beautiful yellows and oranges, seemed like the perfect flowers to go in this colorful peach can.
