About the art

I often like to incorporate elements in my art that connect to my personal life and family history. I was born on a Sunday in February and with violets being February's birth month flower, the title Sunday Violets felt natural. In addition, my paternal grandmother's name was Violet.

I love the simple beauty of violets and for this drawing, I wanted to experiment with a different flower vase than I normally draw. My daughter has had this Café Bustelo can in her play kitchen for years. It seemed the perfect fit for this playful and colorful drawing.
